LearnML Calls
Call for Primary and Secondary Education Teachers
As part of the Learn to Machine Learn project, we have prepared an educational toolbox for teachers and students aiming at supporting education and literacy on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).
The toolbox includes a Guidebook with background information on AI and ML, educational resources, lesson plans, commercial games and a set of digital games developed in the framework of the project and applications for AI education.
For our Pilot Courses phase, we invite primary and secondary education teachers to participate and work with us by using our toolbox, implementing AI and ML education and literacy activities with their students, and assessing the materials used and the design of the activities.
If you choose to participate, you’ll have exclusive access to all the material and the assessment tools to use with your students, prior to their public release.
Who is this call for?
Primary and Secondary education teachers (including preschool teachers) You can be a teacher of any subject or discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Biology, History, Literature, Arts). We encourage a multidisciplinary approach to AI education and literacy.
What do I have to do if I choose to participate?
You’ll have to implement at least one activity focusing on AI education and literacy with your students. You can certainly implement more than one activity.
The activities would be within the scope of the LearnML project (AI and ML education and literacy) but may vary in terms of duration and content. The teachers have the freedom to adapt them to their needs (e.g. to be integrated to a school academic hour and/or subject, or offer the activity as part of a lab or makerspace).
It is suggested that the activities are implemented in schools between October 2021 and February 2022, which is the end of the Pilot Courses phase. But if you plan to implement the activities in your classroom beyond this timeframe, please let us know in the registration form below.
We’ll provide you with exclusive educational material such as a guidebook, games developed in the framework of the project, suggestions of existinggames (freely accessible), lesson plans developed in the framework of the project (but you can also design your own lesson plans, based on your requirements and the profile of your students).
You’ll also have to assess this activity (you and your students).
We’ll provide assessment tools for you and your students such as surveys. The researchers working on the project in the local teams (Greece, Norway, Malta) may want to interview you or some of your students; this will only happen after a discussion and always with your, the child’s and the parents’ permission. The responses will be anonymised and treated confidentially for the analyses and you will not be identifiable in any way (unless you want to). The results will help us evaluate our materials and propose ways AI education can better be implemented in formal education schools.
What if I change my mind?
Although it would be great to work with you, you can always withdraw from participation in the pilot courses, at any point.
